The most striking revelation I had about the teaching of the new literacy skills to my students was that most of my students had no prior knowledge on how to locate and evaluate education information on the Internet. The students that I did have with Internet access had only used the Internet for fun and had never been required to use it for educational purposes before being in my class.

This class has helped me tremendously in knowing where to begin the journey of teaching my students how to use the Internet for educational purposes correctly. I now know how to get my students thinking critically when evaluating information found on the Internet. Through the creation of my unit I became comfortable moving through the 5 new literacies and incorporating them into my lessons on a daily basis. With the new found knowledge I will be incorporating more projects into my curriculum and engaging the students in more web based projects.

One professional development goal that I am going to pursue is to attend Promethean Training in the summer so that I can become an official trainer for my school and district. We just recently got Promethean boards installed in our classrooms and I am working hard to use them in every lesson that I teach. I feel that using these boards will help bring the new literacies to life in my classroom and open up a whole new world of learning for my students. I will be attending this training the first week of June and am very exciting about become an expert on using this new technology.
